Decorating Your Living Room On A Budget

Do you have a living room that looks worn out or as if it came out of the seventies? Don’t worry if you have a tired and outdated living room but have little money to spend. Busting you budget isn’t necessary, you can do quite a few things to give your living room new life that are cost effective. The tips in this article will help you bring life back to your living room.
Freshen up the walls
Changing up your walls is the easiest way to update your living room’s look. You might have something basic on the walls like white or cream, or you may even have old paneling. Today, you can add texture to the room with faux finishes, and the look can be accomplished easily.
In order to create beautiful walls, you’ll need to first chose a basic color of paint. You can chose a color like soft blue, terracotta, a sand shade or any shade you choose. Add the faux finish, once your done, by using rubber stamps, a feather duster or a rag rolling technique. You can find instructions on accomplishing just about any faux finish online.
Revive your furniture
Do you have some pretty worn out furniture? As long as it still has structural integrity, you can do a few things to make it look new again. You can paint or refinish any wooden accents you may have on your sofa or love seat. You can try to clean your fabric if you feel like it, or slipcovers can be used to give the furniture a new appearance. You can find slipcovers that don’t look like a sheet’s been thrown over the sofa nowadays.
Consider using plush throw pillows in a design that suits your decorating style that are also boldly colored. You can use floral patterns, geometric patterns, stripes and checks as long as the color you use complement the room.
Find some old treasures
Many people don’t realize that they have some pretty great resources right under their nose. Things you may have put away in your attic or basement long ago can be found there. A new lampshade on an old lamp, or fresh coat of paint on an antique trunk, accent table or something else can really renew the item. Though it isn’t something everyone knows about, paper lamp shades can be painted. Paint and perform a little stenciling magic on any old ceramic base lamps you may have.
Further transform your living room by taking out some old accents and accessories if you have them. You can make a room look cluttered and messy with too many accessories. Use only a few accents that are boldly colored to add some interest to the living room.
Just like the old saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” It is very true.. You can find quite a few nice bargains at flea markets and garage sales. Throw a new perspective on them by using your creativity. You can have a new and interesting piece in your living room by simply taking an old wooden accent table and painting it. Throwing a bit of imagination and creativity into the mix can make decorating on a budget much easier.
