Keep Mosquitoes Away This Summer

by Boston Decorator in Pest Control

Mosquitoes – they are one of summertime’s most intrusive pests. Whether you are in Little Rock, Hot Springs or anywhere in Arkansas and you enjoy spending time outdoors then you must be prepared to face these pesky insects. If you enjoy gathering around the pool with your family and friends, relaxing on your deck or patio or just love to be active during the warmest part of the month then you are already familiar with mosquitoes.

Rather than putting together an arsenal of weapons such as zappers, citronella candles, swatters or applying massive quantities of bug spray to your skin, consider implementing preventative measures that will help you reduce the mosquito population on your property, inside your home and that will help keep mosquitoes away this summer.

One of the most likely reasons for mosquito activity is standing water around property. These insects require water to breed and will do so in clogged gutters, drainage ditches, bird baths, a child’s wading pool even in a bucket or discarded tire. Clearing gutters and ditches as well as frequently changing the water in items that can’t be drained will help keep mosquitoes away. Turn over anything that will allow water to pool, keep your yard picked up and trim overgrown areas to avoid a major infestation.

No one wants to go to sleep with these annoying biters buzzing in their ear. Take steps that will stop them from entering your home. Make sure your doors and windows are kept close. If they must be opened proper screening should be added. Also replace any door and window screens that are torn or have holes and seal any cracks around entrances to discourage entry.

Using the tips mentioned previously will help keep mosquito activity down, however, if your property is already infested with these irritating insects consider using a local pest control company that offers mosquito control. Do not rely on sprays or treatments that you can buy at the local hardware store as they may only get rid of one or two of a much larger population. For best results contact a pest professional that is experienced in identifying problem areas and who will provide a detailed inspection to locate harborage sites as well as implement a control plan to decrease the number of pests on your property.

Aside from ruining an outdoor event, mosquitoes are also known vectors of human diseases such as encephalitis and the West Nile virus that may cause harm to your people you care about. They are also transmitters of heartworm to pets. Although they are mainly considered a nuisance for their biting which leaves behind itching welts their ability to expose your family and pets to serious health conditions should not be ignored. So keep mosquitoes away this summer so that you can enjoy all of your plans and know that you are also protecting your family from further danger.

Snake Repellent – What is it, and Does it Work?

by Boston Decorator in Pest Control

As soon as spring starts, the first thing I always think of is how I am going to get rid of my snake population this year. A different type of snake repellent seems to come on the market every day, making finding the right type of product hard to do. However, for a person like me, getting rid of my snakes is of the utmost importance.

A snake repellent can come in many different forms, with powder and a spray form probably the most common. These products are suppose to be used in your yard every so often, usually around four weeks, and if used correctly, should keep snakes away from your home and out of your yard.

The basic principles of snake repellents seem obvious enough. If you create smells and substances that snakes dislike, they should leave that area. Humans do not stick around in areas where smells and tastes are horrible, so why should snakes?

Snakes also have an organ that is specifically in charge of smell and taste. This also gives credibility to the whole idea that by irritating this organ, you should be able to get rid of snakes, just like you can with certain bugs or other animals. Because of this thought process, there are many types of snake repellent products out there.

The big question is do they work or not, and right now, I do not have enough experience with them. I have read a lot of articles that say things like mothballs, cinnamon, sulfur, and any other type of really harsh smell like cayenne pepper tends not to work. Some products say they are made from natural smells that keep snakes away in the wild naturally. Again, without trying all of those different types, it will be too hard for me to endorse those products as something that works.

I can guarantee however, that I will continue to look for solutions that keep snakes out of my yard, that is for sure.

To most people this sounds like the makings for a horror movie, but it is reality in all too many homes during the cold winter months. Don’t despair, there is help. With today’s technology you can find a mouse repellent that really works.

Great advances have been made in the development of ultrasonic rodent repellents. This is one type of mouse repellent that is truly effective and easy to use. You simply plug it in or place a battery operated version in the area where you are having the problem and that’s it. The device will take over. The ultrasonic sound waves that are emitted will cause great stress to your uninvited house guest. They will immediately feel the need to escape the area to get away from the sound. You can use several of these devices around your home which will force the mice back outside.

Only the smallest rodents can hear the ultrasonic sounds. You and your pets will not hear a thing. Because you are not actually killing the mouse, this is a truly safe mouse repellent for everyone involved. You don’t have to deal with the disgusting clean up as with a sticky surface type of trap, and if you have ever found a mouse in a spring loaded trap, the sight can be downright nauseating. With both of these types of traditional traps you also have to worry about placing them out of the way of your small children and pets.

The ultrasonic mouse repellent is the environmentally friendly choice for getting rid of rodents. There are no chemicals involved and no dead animals to dispose of. If you have ever used the toxic chemical boxes from an exterminator, you know that the mice don’t always make it outside before dying. The smell of a decaying mouse in the walls of your finished basement is not one you are likely to forget. So make the smart choice in mouse repellent products and choose an ultrasonic rodent repellent. You can get the job done quickly, effectively, and at an affordable price.

Why Is Home Termite Treatment So Essential?

by Boston Decorator in Pest Control

All of us are aware of termites and the damage they can cause to wood. Though many of us still feel that the problem of termites is not going to affect them, yet it becomes necessary to know how the home termite treatment can help in saving your precious wood.

Termites commonly are known as wood eating ants. They can pose the biggest of all the detrimental things with respect to your wooden furniture. Timber is the most imperative component of your house, and once you have the household timber under attack by these dangerous creatures, then not only the timber but also the whole structure and set up of the house can be under attack and make it quite unbalanced and unsafe too. That is why it becomes highly crucial to find out the most excellent home termite treatment to deal with such a grave problem.

In order to deal with these pests better and in an improved way, it is necessary to know more about them. Termites typically do not come in singles. They are characteristically found to form colonies and that means that if you find one single termite, then you can be pretty sure that there are more to it than meets the eye. These pests have a definite modus operandi to deal with the wood. They not only bore holes in to the wood, but also form tunnels running deep in to the body of the timber.

Imagine the amount of risk such a hollow and burrowed timber can cause to your precious home. There not only looms the danger of the whole structure falling apart any moment but also there is another long term loss of having to subject your entire house structure to repairs. Now if the timber which you have used for the structure of the house is totally destroyed by the termites, then there is no way you can fix the problem up. The only thing you can veer do in such a situation is to demolish the whole structure and then rebuild it using good wood which has been unblemished by these timber eating pests.

But it is easier said than done and not to mention the huge costs in building your house again. Not only that, you can never sell off such a damaged house to any other person, because no one would like to take on such a huge problem on their hands. That is where an excellent home termite system can be of help to you, in not only saving your wood, but also salvaging your home.
